Week 5 is approaching and January is coming to an end! First month of the new year, right out the door! Scary thought actually! Last week was a mess! Between the snow and I wasn't feeling so great, it was just one of those weeks! I actually adventured out on Thursday in that lovely snow because I had two classes and each was giving a test, and when I had left, there was no posting that class was canceled so I looked at it as having no choice whatsoever. It took me about a half hour to get to route 23, and when I actually got there, it was a mess. Needless to say, after a million phone calls from my mother, father, and boyfriend, I turned around and went back home. Good thing I did that because when I got home, there had been those emails saying class was canceled! I would have been so mad if I went all the way down there to find that out!!
It's just different up here because it could be a winter wonderland and then down in Woodland Park, it's never as bad as it is here. That wasn't the truth on Thursday, so luckily I was able to just turn around and get myself home safely!
Anyways, we are almost halfway through the quarter, which means midterms are approaching. Scary thought! For this upcoming week, I have a test in pretty much every class I am taking, so that should be fun! (NOT!) The two I should have had on Thursday were rescheduled for this upcoming Tuesday, so at least I will have a little extra time to go over everything I need to know. Other than that, everything else is going pretty smoothly. Just balancing school and work, but can't really complain, except for the fact I am pretty exhausted once Friday rolls around.
So we will see what this week brings. I heard more snow, but I hope it's not a big mess! Time to say goodbye to January and hello to February! Also, I get a little excited once my birthday starts to approach, so I have to say, 42 days till my birthday! :) Kind of upset, since I'll be 20! Bye bye teenager days! Haha! Have a good week!

Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday!
Happy Wednesday! Again, why is this week going by so quickly? Hopefully everyone took a look at their schedule for next quarter and began enrolling in those classes. I got mine out of the way and as of right now, I am taking all online again. It happened to be that all the classes that I really wanted for next quarter were being offered all online and not so much at Garret Mountain, so I figured since they were open and I wouldn't have to wait, I would just enroll in them for now. That could very well change and I could take some on site, but I still have some time for that decision.
Back on track with my current classes, everything is going smoothly. I have two tests tomorrow, back to back, which I am worried about, but I will get some studying in tonight and be good to go. I had to read The Hound of the Baskervilles for my Fiction class, and fifteen chapters later, I was finished!!! I really picked it apart, but it was easy to follow so I didn't run into too many problems. After I read it, I just basically noted down main events in the story and made a list of the characters that had the main importance within the story. My professor allows us to use the text because we are going to need to analyze specific quotes, so having the text, helps us get a better feel for what we need to interpret.
I have mentioned this several times, but I don't really care to read. I have to say though that the stories I have read so far this quarter were really of interest to me and they didn't bore me all that much. I was actually impressed with myself that I didn't just say forget this and only skim over it. It's stories that grab my attention from the beginning that will keep me engaged in reading in full.
So tomorrow I will have a test on The Hound of the Baskervilles and then in my Global Social Change class, I will have a test about Gender and linguistic diversity. I just need to review everything once more and I should be good to go with that.
Oh, and that math paper I was all worried about came back with a 25 out of 25. You can assume I was beyond thrilled! I wasn't expecting that, but my hard work paid off!

Scheduling begins tomorrow!
Where has this weekend gone? I can't believe it's already almost 4PM on Sunday! The weekends need to drag on, not fly by!!!
Tomorrow begins scheduling! For those of you who are graduating began making their schedules last week and now it's time for the rest of us to get ours done! The course schedules have been posted so make sure you get an idea of what days you want to take classes on and which times are convenient for your own personal schedule. Also, if you are a student, like myself, who takes both online and on-site classes, some of those online classes are open, so make sure you take a look and see if any of them work better for you to take online.
As always, you need to send your schedule to your home campus or go to your campus and meet with an adviser if you are not sure which classes to enroll in. If you choose to email your schedule request, make sure you include your name, your student ID,the course name and course codes, a phone number in which you can be contacted, and a copy of you degree audit copied into a word document. This will make it easier for the advisers to see which courses you need and if the ones you picked are good choices for you. You can also go directly to your campus and meet with them or drop off your paperwork. Everything you need for scheduling is located under the Community tab, click on advisement, then on the left hand side, select course schedule and everything you need is right there!
I will post all of the email addresses again for the campuses to make life a little bit easier for everyone:

For a quick movie review, I went to go see The Lovely Bones last night and I would definitely recommend this movie for everyone to see. It was definitely something different but a good movie in which you weren't easily distracted or bored right off the bat! I made a few predictions in the beginning about what would end up happening, and I was completely wrong! Has anyone else seen this movie yet? What's your thoughts?

Good Morning! TGIF!
Woo Hoo, it's Friday!!! Unfortunately, I can't enjoy my Friday until I am out of work. I have to be there in an hour, so I figured I would come on here for a little update! Week 3 was successfully completed for me, which makes me very happy. Of course the work load is getting a bit heavier, but so far it hasn't been all that bad. It's all about managing your time efficiently.
I received mail from Berkeley yesterday, and I wasn't sure what it could possibly be. I just proceeded to open it to find out it was paperwork for the National Honor Society. I have been selected for membership in the Alpha Sigma Lambda which is dedicated to associate and bachelor level adult students who must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 (once inducted). That was definitely exciting and now is something to look forward to. It also puts a little more pressure on me, but with hard work and dedication, that's how I will keep my grades up!
Like I said, I have to run off to work today and I am making phone calls today. Woo hoo...NOT! Hopefully everyone is feeling the good vibe this Friday and everything will go smoothly. After I make about 100 phone calls and finish up some paperwork, I am free to go, so hopefully my day will go rather quickly. As for tonight, I am not sure what's on the agenda yet. For the weekend, I do have some studying to get in to prepare for some tests next week, and then just relax and hope that Monday takes a REALLY, REALLY, REALLY long time to get here!

Mid-Week Update!!
Good Afternoon! I figured I would pop on here before I went off and studied for a math test. Not exactly a good subject for me, so I really need to start focusing on that. I did however finish that math paper I was talking about, so that was a breath of fresh air! Other than that, I had a test yesterday in Fiction, which I really want to know what I got. It was a lot of writing and 5 pages later I was officially finished. That was a lot of weight taken off my shoulders, but now I sit and wait for the grade!
Aside from school, some more devastating news is occurring over in Haiti. Another earthquake hit this morning with a magnitude of 6.1 causing people to flee into the streets as buildings were shaking. It happens to be that this is known as an aftershock, which normally occurs within the first 24-48 hours after the main earthquake, but this one came just 8 days after the original devastation. This was hard for many people to deal with because all they want to do is get back on their feet and move on with their lives, but with all that is around them, it is very hard. I am happy to hear that they are finding more individuals who survived and are able to help them right away.
I heard the other morning that there was a man who was trapped in the grocery store and he said he was stuck at the right place at the right time because he was in the peanut butter and jelly aisle, so he was able to eat until someone was able to get to him.
The relief efforts are still in force and there is a lot that we can all do. I was at TD Bank yesterday and a woman from a Ramsey school was using the Penny Arcade, where to throw your change in and get your money. She had bags and bags full of coins that they had collected in just the past two days. I was waiting for my friend, so I decided to help her unwrap the rolls and empty the bags to make the process a little quicker. Just within 2 days, those students from that school raised over $500. I wish I had my camera because that is truly amazing. By the time she was done, she must have filled up like 5 bags. They constantly have to be changed so that they don't get too heavy and break all over the place. It was just so nice to see the contribution that was being made!
Everyone keep praying for these families in Haiti! They need us during these hard times!! Enjoy the rest of your week and now it's time to go get ready for a math test! **CROSSING MY FINGERS** Wish me luck!

Why must the weekends come to an end?
I really wish the weekends could be a lot longer, but unfortunately we are never going to be that lucky! Tomorrow is Martin Luther King Day, so at least classes are canceled, but I still have work and a ton of things to get done, so it's not a vacation day for me! It is suppose to snow, so I might not be going anywhere tomorrow! We will see!
Anyways, it's been a productive weekend. I began working on a math paper about the Cartesian Coordinate plane system, which is very interesting. I never thought I would be writing a paper about math, but there is a lot of history behind it that many of us never knew! I am hoping to get that finished up today. The requirements are 250 words, and I need to explain who invented it, the history behind it, and why I think it was a pivotal event in the world of mathematics. I have a good stance on the first two parts, but just need to go through and add or take out one or two things. Then, I can begin concluding the paper and making any other revisions needed. I have until Saturday, but I have a lot of other stuff going on during the week with studying and what not, that I just want to get one thing off of my shoulders!
I am very happy to see all of the efforts being made to the individuals over in Haiti! It's sad to see the death toll so high, but I am so glad people are doing all that they can to make a contribution. Even just by sending a text, you can automatically donate $10 to relief efforts. It will be billed directly to your cell phone bill and is very simple. All you need to do is text HAITI to the number 90999. Please make a contribution!

Week 2 Wrap up!
Where did time go this week? It was one thing after the other for me and now I'm sitting here thinking, wow it's already Thursday!! It was another busy week packed with school work and plenty of other things!
The first thing I really want to touch base on is the devastation in Haiti. This news broke out in the beginning of the week and a lot of support has already been given to these families and individuals who are left in such difficult situations. I was just looking on CNN.com at some of the pictures from this occurrence and it's very sad. On my way to school this morning, I was listening to Z100 and they were telling a story where this man was about 6 or 7 hours away from his wife and she was able to get on the phone and contact him, and he drove all the way back home and unburied her with his bare hands to get her to safety. It's stories like that, that really touch the heart and make you want to do so much for these people who were injured. As I am sitting here, I am scrolling through all the stories listed about Haiti. Some are speaking about the devastation, while others are looking on the brighter side about all the relief efforts that are being put towards this devastation to help out.
I just want everyone to take a minute and think about all of these people who are going through such troubles right now because of this earthquake. Also, please join these relief efforts and make a donation. Even if it is just a dollar, that dollar can go far! Please take a minute and make a donation to these people. We need to all be in this together and give them a hand!

On another note, I want to discuss a video I helped out with at the Bergen Campus yesterday! (HI MIKE! < you said you would be reading this, so here is your personal shout out!)
So yesterday I adventured down to the Bergen campus, which I have never been too. It's much different than the Garret Mountain campus, but very nice. I feel comfortable now traveling down there if I ever want to take classes at the Bergen campus. But anyways, the point of going down there was to help out with a DECA video Berkeley was producing. When Mrs. Covino asked if I would be interested in being a part of this, I was very excited! I was involved in DECA, so of course I wanted to help out! I met some very nice people and had a lot of fun. After moving the mouse around, typing some things on the computer, navigating some websites, making lists, it felt like I was making a college choice all over again! That leads to what the main objective of the video is, which is to describe/show the steps in making a choice about which major to study in college. DECA, Distributive Education Clubs of America, places a lot of emphasis on marketing for example. This was what really steered me in the direction of becoming a marketing major. From participating in class, working on projects, and competing in regional, state, and national competitions, there are a lot of skills to be learned and applied to future things in life. Not to mention the workshops I attended from being in DECA. There is so much to take advantage of through this program, so those who are in it, stick with it! It definitely pays off in the end if you become engaged in the program and take everything you learn from it and apply it throughout the rest of your life. (Thank you to everyone for involving me!!)
